Priest Point Park
Olympia, WA

------
This is BJ, an African cat we met along the shore. He was hunting for anything he could get his paws on!

The sunsets have been breathtaking and remind us to feel grateful for having such fortunate travel experiences.

Can you believe it?Gas at this price?
Not in California!

Standing atop the High Steel Bridge
this gorge hundreds of feet down
is an awesome sight.

The Olympic National Forest
12/6/02

Mt. Rainer as the fog settles in for the night.

The valley below the mountain.

These salmon died from exhaustion as they swam upstream to spawn. Quite a sight to see as there were hundreds of dead salmon in the riverbeds.

The colorful sunsets are majestic & serene.

Annual Olympia Motorcycle Toy Drive
December 7, 2002

It was quite a show. A full 30 minutes of nothing but motorcycles.
From dirt bikes to Harley's, all carried the holiday spirit with toys brought to the Capitol building.
We heard an estimate of 6,800 rode!

------

After the motorcycle show, we went into town for the Saturday Farmer's Market

where Dan found some
delicious Washington Braeburn apples.

December 10, 2002

It's always special to see a rainbow, especially on a miserable & rainy day!

Later that night, we went for a drive to see Christmas lights, a tradition for Dan & I.

December 14
Snoqualmie, WA

We took a drive towards the cascade mountain range in hopes of seeing some snow.

---
We did find Snoqualmie Falls,
an awesome sight, but this photo doesn't do it justice.

Then it was too dark to go any further into the mts.
So these pictures of a snowflake will have to do and the snow will have to wait for our next trip out!

I love coming home to record the new digital photos onto my website!

Our Olympic Peninsula Trip 12/20 - 12/26

We left Olympia heading northwest on Hwy.101 into the foothills of the Olympic Nat'l Forest. Driving through Lilliwaup, past Duckabush and through Hamma Hamma, we arrived at our first nights destination -

Dosewallips State Park 12/20/02
It was a challenge for the guys to get a campfire started. Everything was soaked after all the rain the area had been getting. But, the night was clear & brisk, so we put up our Christmas lights & sat around the warm fire enjoying our first night out together.

"Happy Birthday"
Chuck!
12/21/2002

In the morning, the sun was shining so Chuck & I took a leisurely walk along the Dosewallips River.
We got our first glimpse of the snow covered Olympic Mts.
Mushrooms grew in abundance along with the moles! And tiny little squirrels searched about for the winter food supply.

Hurricane Ridge12/22/02
The Olympic Mountain Range

We finally got to play in some snow!
What a spectacular sight at this elevation of 7,952 ft.

------

Chuck had fun in the "Discovery Ranger Station" !

12/23/2002
From Hurricane Ridge we drove to the "Hoh Rain Forest"
and stayed at the Hard Rain Cafe's campground.
This time of year, we were the only
campers.....nice, quiet & private.
Across the street was the beautiful Hoh River.
------

We were told that a herd of elk had visited the RV campground early the day we arrived so,
Leanne got up at 5AM
(much to Chuck's chagrin as he slept on the pull out couch) and waited for the exciting experience.
Alas.....no elk to be seen except for this diorama in the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor's Center!

-----

----------
It was such a pleasure to see the spawning salmon alive and actually fighting their way upstream.
This huge cypress fell over & left only its' bark standing. A beautiful heron seemed to enjoy the rain forest.

------
Can you guess which trail we chose to hike?

It was cold & rainy.

12/24/02
Kalaloch State Beach

It was windy.
------
It was Christmas Eve!

12/25/02
Lake Sylvia, WA

We woke in a peaceful & serene spot on Christmas morning.
So much to be thankful for.

We may live in a small space, but we can still bring the Christmas spirit into our home.

12/29/2002 Olympia, WA

Paul & Adele had us over for a warm & wonderful Christmas chili dinner.

Even Bucky (the dog) enjoyed the evening.
Our "Thanks" again to Paul, Adele & Jessie for another wonderful holiday celebration!
