Just

Casa Grande, AZ
The The Arizona Gypsy Gathering Rally
at Pinal County Fairgrounds.

Nice,
well-kept fairgrounds. They were always busy with something going
on.

There
was a 4-H Exhibition going on and I caught one of the contestants
preening her goat for the show.
Here
we are on the left, parked with a beautiful view of the mountains.
Dan's chatting with our neighbor, Jack, who runs his coach with
vegetable oil.
|
On
the left is short Nick (editor, and main
man of the Gypsy Journal) & tall Ed (6'10")
Dan & Jack really enjoyed chatting about
all sorts of things. |
 |
This
is just half the roomful of gypsies gathering for this rally. About
190 rigs attended.
Thanks
Nick & Terry for putting together a good rally!

Casa Grande Ruins National Monument
Coolidge, AZ
Outside the "Big House" ruins, Dan talked for nearly
an hour with a San Diego client.

These are ruins from the "Hohokum" society which thrived
here in the 1300's.
The house has openings in alignment with the sun & moon.
It appears they devised a calendar system based on the motions
of the sun & moon,
and incorporated that knowledge into architecture. Like England's
Stonehenge,
the Casa Grande may have served as an astronomical observatory
and calendar.

These are some of the artifacts of the society:
A ceramic bowl, a paint pot, stone censors (used perhaps in curing
ceremonies) & human effigy pots.
The rangers had a demonstration with some of the native birds
of the area.
These two osprey were gorgeous.

|
We
drove around the area and you can see how large these seguaros
are next to Dan!
He found some dried cholla cactus to save as souveniers of the
AZ desert.
