June
10-12, 2004
Back
on the Road again!
Our 1st night
out we boon-docked 2nd
night on BLM land at Turtle Creek in Lone
Pine, CA
in Adelanto, CA
with
the snow-capped Sierra's in the background

|
We
stopped in California City to take a look at some of the property we've
been seeing up for auction
on bid4auctions.com. Looks pretty desolate, dry & downright dreary
to me!

June 13, 2004
Comstock Country RV Park, Carson City, NV
Then we made it to Carson City and joined the Holiday Rambler 400 Club
at their 4:00 o'clock meeting.
This is a group of full-timer's who meet throughout the year for visiting
& seeing the sights together.
Some younger, some older so we fit right in and were warmly welcomed.

Remember last July when I found 4 tiny kitties (2 tiger & 2 calico)
under our coach?
David & Barbara gave a home to one of the calicos - look how big she's
grown since then!

June 14, 2004
Our
first outing was to visit the famous "Ponderosa
Ranch" where Bonanza was filmed way
back when...

We
got waylaid by a bandit. My Dan was so brave, he shot the bandit, but...

we ended up in JAIL! Look at that sad face. Our assigned "angels",
Bob & Marie came to the rescue.
They bailed us out and we rode off thankful for our freedom. Beautiful
Lake Tahoe is in the background.
This
is the ranch house most will remember from the TV show.
Later, while walking, I found this beautiful bird in the Ponderosa Pines
posing
for the camera.
|
After
leaving the Ponderosa, we drove around Lake
Tahoe & enjoyed the majestic countryside.

|
June
15, 2004
Virginia City, Nevada

This is a town
with lots of history and certainly reminds me of the western movies I
watched as a child.
The back street below used to be what was called the "red light district".
We enjoyed hearing the history of the town on our trolley tour.

Lot's of gold & silver was mined here in the boomtown days.
|
June
16, 2004
Carson City Museum

The museum
had great displays of the gold & silver rush era as well as other
historical information.
For some reason, I focused my picture taking on stricly the animals &
birds!

|
June
17, 2004
The "Red Hat" Ladies met for a group photo before their luncheon..
Then Dan & I left to visit Dawn in her hometown.
Truckee, CA

What fun to
visit Dawn on her own turf! Usually she flies down to San Diego for visits.
A quiet &
quaint town surrounded
by mountains, beautiful rivers & lakes.
|
June
18, 2004
Laura Springs Ranch
The 400 Club met here for their annual meeting before
having a nice BBQ lunch.
Bart & Carl (board members) Karen(vice
president) Ben(president) Linda(secretary)
Sheriff Walt presents the official wardrobe.

June
19, 2004
Verdi, NV Gold Ranch RV
Park
We left Carson City, traveled a short way to Verdi, NV where we met Bob
& Marie Smith who have a coach similar to ours.
Later Bob &
Linda Stockton joined us for an overnight stay & visit. Everyone enjoys
the "wireless" MotoSat
connection.

|
June
20, 2004
After saying "see you later" to Bob & Linda, the rest of
us drove along
a nearby dirt road
which followed
one of the historic California Trails.

|
 |
Like
elsewhere in this fine country of ours,
fires put our landscape at great risk.
|
 |
You
can clearly see how long it takes
for the land to recover.
 |
 |
June
21, 2004
Marie & I spent the day thrift shopping while Bob & Dan visited
the auto museum.
That evening we drove into Reno for a short visit & a big buffet dinner!

They sure have
strange "bugs" landing on the tops of buildings in Reno, Nevada.
|
Tuesday
June 22, 2004
We say "See you soon" as Bob & Marie head west back into
CA and we go east.
Fernley, NV
Here we'll
stay taking care of business for a few days.

|
June
26, 2004
Pyramid Lake, NV

Above is a blow up of the pyramid which gave the lake
it's name.
|
Dan
had to "toe-test the water" and
as we walked along the shore, we saw lots of these strange things.
Anyone know what they are?

We
decided to drive up the northeast side of the lake. According to "Mikey",
our GPS,
there was a road cutting across
into Winnemucca where we'd get on 95 north into OR and then into ID. Well.......
We ended up on a DIRT ROAD, wash-boardy worse than the road to Dad's! And
there was 20 miles of it!
We were in the Black Rock Desert. |

The road behind
us. |

|

The road ahead.
|
Dan
was at his wit's end.....not to mention mad at "Mikey"!
So what did we do? We had to drive for another 4 miles before we could
turn our coach around!
Whew....... |

|
We
drove, and drove and drove not knowing where we'd rest our weary bodies.
Here's where we boon docked for the night just before this beautiful sunset.
It was right off a very twisty 95 in OR looking down on the Owyhee River
Valley.
Evening sunset Morning
sunshine

Here we met a nice young man, Aaron Silvers, a truck driver who also spent
the night.
Dan and he chatted late into the night about trucks, tires and diesel
engines.

July
28, 2004
Nampa, ID
"For the Birds"
- A family owned & operated rehabilitative sancuary for wild
birds & animals.
We had a private tour from the son, Leon. How special. The girls &
I used to sing this kukkaburro song!
|
Kookaburra
sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be
Kookaburra
sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me!
Kookaburra
sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
That's not a monkey that's me
Kookaburra
sits on a rusty nail
Gets a boo-boo in his tail
Cry, Kookaburra! Cry, kookaburra!
Oh how life can be!
|
Kukkaburro

|

The gorgeous
parrot couple.

|
We
really enjoyed seeing this family's efforts to help preserve wildlife
in their own special way.
Thank you for
the tour, Leon. |
 |

June 29, 2004
Idaho State Penitentiary
We toured this penitentiary always feeling grateful that
we never had to live here.
|
 |
Pretty
bleak, don't you think?
 |
 |
No
privacy and they even showered in the open hall.
 |
Just
as we were leaving the grounds, it got cold......the wind & rain pelted
down. Then came this hail!
What a surprise.

|
June 30, 2004
We left Nampa and continued north on ID 95.
We stopped in the small town of Council, ID. What an interesting sport
they had planned for 4th of July!
A real "Old West" town with the covered wooded sidewalks.

|
| Later
that evening, we found this lovely spot to bondock off ID 95 next to the
Salmon River. |

I went walking
around and nearly stepped on this snake. He hissed and I stopped in my
tracks.
You can be sure I watched where I was putting my feet after meeting this!
I'm not even sure what kind of snake it is, anyone know?
