Jump to Thanksgiving update in San Antonio, TX

November 1, 2004
What a beautiful morning to wake up to. The very first snow of the season for Denver, CO.

Above is the park right next to where you see our RV amongst the snowy trees.

Isn't this beautiful?

We discovered some incredibly peaceful & warmer boondocking spots in Kansas!

Rest area off I-70 in Goodland, Kansas      November 4, 2004
The Kansas rest areas even have a circle pull-off for rv/campers making it a quieter place to rest.

And across the street was this cornfield.
Remember driving through Kansas? This is it.......field after field after field.

Tara's changing!
Before              4 1/2 months
             5 1/2 months                  a new life!

November 5, 2004
Old Mill Campground - $7 a night w/ electricity in the Swedish community of Lindsborg, Kansas
.

In the morning before leaving, I wandered around town admiring its' uniqueness.
Below you see one of the many painted "Dalas" on the sidewalks of Main St.
A the comfortable working conditions in the workshop.

The Roller Mill & Museum, the "Come Again" sign on the bridge and the well kept homes
helped give the town a comfortable setting.

November 6, 2004
Newcastle, OK

This park was convenient, however, I really reacted to the "redneck" owner and would not return there.
His attitude definitely tainted my view of Newcastle and I was very happy to leave!

It was strange to see the "No Weapons" sign posted on the bingo door.

November 8, 2004
Traders Village in Grand Prairie, TX
We met full timer friends Bob & Marie Smith to visit for a few days in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Of course, no visit to Ft. Worth is complete with seeing
Billy Bob's famous club, complete with it's indoor rodeo yard.

November 13-18, 2004
Bryan/College Station, TX
What a treat to spend some time with Jerod.

I hadn't realized that he was a budding artist and quite good as an interior designer.

On a tour of Rolligon where he works we got a good feel for his responsibilities.
He builds the electronic circuitry for their huge machines, wiring everything into the vehicles.

Besides doing nearly all custom work, the company even makes their own tires on site.

We couldn't leave town without a delicious Texas B-B-Q dinner
.

At home, Jerod plays with Mishka, his roommate's peekapoo.

November 19th
We made it to Mountain Top RV Park.
A wonderful spot with a gorgeous view of the Texas Hill Country right out our front window.

Even though it was a miserable rainy day, we had a great time sharing the
past 10+ years of life's experiences with Randy Combs, a dear friend from 1980's College Station.

His home in Cedar Park, just outside of Austin has these wonderful huge live oak trees surrounding it.

My, how Randy's children have grown! Daniel, Elizabeth, Randy's Dad & Randy.

November 21, 2004
Reuniting with Lucy Egg......what an absolute thrill! She is living in Austin,
and experiencing life to it's fullest, participating in a self-actualization program by Martin Sage and Sage Innovations..

As we chatted, she busily worked on finishing a few of her handmade hats made from recycled sweaters.

Here are her four precious grandchildren: Mathew, Madeleine, Raina & Star

November 22, 2004
On Monday evening, Randy came for dinner and one last visit before we head to San Antonio.

Boerne, TX
The Smith Family Thanksgiving

Kevin & Brenda Smith have a wonderful home surrounded by gorgeous live oak trees.

Brenda, with her 2 sisters in back, Ken carving and sister Jingles all busy getting ready for the crowd.

My contributions were some desserts and deviled eggs!

While the cooks were in the final stages of preparation,
everyone else relaxed, chatted and played with the dogs.

The Smith boys, l-r: (son) Kevin, (grandson) Tim, (son) Tom and Father Bob.

TJ playing with Jetters and puppy Sloan.        Jingle's husband, John, with Jazzy.

Ken & Debbie, grandson Tristin with Jennifer, and son Kenny relaxing.

The three sisters: Debbie, Hostess Brenda, and Jingles.

Grandma & Grandpa Smith happily enjoying spending time with their family.

 Friday    November 26, 2004
San Antonio annual Christmas tree lighting and boat show.

After the boat parade, we walked to the Alamo.
It was closed, but we hope to go back for another visit during the day.

Saturday     November 27, 2004
Luckenbach, TX
Population 3

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday features the Hill Country Musicians Jam—afternoons and evenings.
Bring your instrument of choice and join in with musicians from near and far out back under the oak trees or inside around the pot bellied stove depending on the weather. You never know who might stop in.

The motorcyclist's gathered....

The visitor's enjoyed the stories and the music.

Fredericksburg, TX
After Luckenbach, we visited the German town of Fredericksburg filled with wonderful old buildings.
Here we had our first glimpse of the retail Christmas trade in full swing!

Everything's big in Texas!

Sunday    November 28, 2004
Fiesta RV Park
The park offered a free "Turkey & Dumplin' Dinner" to all campers in the park.

Many "Thanks" to the cooks & servers for the delicious meal!

Monday   November 29, 2004

The Perry Family
We had a delicious lamb dinner with Bill & Lolly Perry, owner's of Fish Richards, the first restaurant
I ever worked at. It was in the 1980's back in College Station, TX .
Their son Blaine was home for the Thanksgiving holiday from NYC where he's pursuing a career as a comedian.

Lolly's passion is tending & training her two gorgeous show horses.
