Sept.
12 - 17, 2005
Traveling up the coast of New Brunswick.
We decided to visit these first areas more fully on our return trip.
St. Stephen 9/12
We crossed the border into New Brunswick and stopped at the visitor's
center for maps & info.
This mini lighthouse is just the beginning of the many, many lighthouses
we'll see as we travel in Canada.
Then went to a local bank to exchange our money, before heading north
to our next campground stop.

St. George Gorge 9/13
We based our motorhome in Pocologan at a nice RV park overlooking
the bay,
then toured some of the area with our jeep.

Complete with salmon run! Must be amazing to see the salmon
going up these stairs.

Ferry
to Deer Island 9/14/05
Deer Island is the smallest of the Fundy Isles
. It lies in Passamaquoddy Bay between the province of New Brunswick
and the state of Maine.
The ferry has no schedule....it comes and goes as the traffic dictates!

Off comes this semi filled with fresh seafood from the island! Then
on we go for our ride over. |
|
A
view of the LeTete Point Lighthouse from the ferry.
Numerous fishing villages dot the Deer Island coast -
home to the herring, lobster and salmon fishery that are the mainstays
of the island economy.
 |
At
low tide, beached boats lay along the shores throughout the island.
The tides rise and fall up to 40 ft. The abandoned boats were quite
picturesque.
In the Northern Harbour, we found an abandoned lobster pound which
we enjoyed exploring.
Below, at low tide we drove across the rocky mud to get a closer view
of a fishing weir.
I found a huge patch of beautiful sea heather growing on the other
side. |

Here's a pier on the shore side filled with the
lobster traps waiting to be used.

We surprised these wild turkeys on our leisurely drive through the
island.

Seagulls posed around every corner. Here's the Deer Island Point Park
Lighthouse. |

St. John, New Brunswick
9/15/05
We boondocked for the night in the Visitor's Center huge parking lot.
Had a nice view of the tidal changes.
It was raining and although I didn't take any photos, we walked out
on the bridge around 11pm
to see the tides reversing from high tide to low. Amazing to see and
hear the roaring waters.

Hopewell Cape , New Brunswick 9/16/05
Hopewell "Flower Pot" Rocks
Lover's Arch underwater and then dry, then with Dan standing underneath
just as the tide began to wane. It
still had a long way to go down when we were there. That
day, high tide was 41 ft and low tide was 3.9 ft.
It's an amazing place to visit.
|
We
still take time to be silly! |
 |
|
We
did hurry through New Brunswick. Perhaps if we have time, we'll visit
a few more areas.
