The Nomadic Neuman's
Our Yellowstone Adventure
Aug. 18 - 23, 2004
Wed. 8/18/04    Day 1
The Wolf & Bear Discovery Center
I definitely recommend visiting the discovery center. They have a museum, informational movies and even live bears & wolves to help the visitor understand the history of Yellowstone.
This wolf was just waking up and it was neat to watch him yawn, stretch & go find something to eat.

The bears had just been fed and were having a good time!

Of course, we had to have a little silly fun, too!

Then we entered Yellowstone at the West Entance to the park and very quickly saw that
the graceful elk were in abundance throughout the park.

Since we didn't get started into the park until after 5pm, we passed by the geyser sights
along the way to Old Faithful, thinking we could make the next spouting. Unfortunately, we just missed it ,
but we went on to see some more sights before dark settled in.

This is one of our first views of the Yellowstone River.....little did we know how often our paths would cross.

Thursday 8/19/04     Day 2

We saw a crowd beginning to gather on the side of the road so we stopped. How exciting!
Our first glimpse of a black bear foraging for food along the banks of the Yellowstone.

Wwe passed by this cave which as you can see actually had bones in the entrance.
The white water flowing swiftly below the cave from the falls upstream.

We drove along to West Thumb Geyser Basin. We were constantly amazed at the awesome sights.

The story behind this cone is that "Way back... the fisherman discovered they could fish along this
shore of Yellowstone Lake
, drop it still on the line into this boiling cone until cooked and eat it right on the spot!"
Hence the name "Fishing Cone".

While checking out Lake Village Campground, we happened upon this huge bison just taking a nap in one of the campsites! Then Glenda spotted this coyote hopping in the tall grass after his next meal.
By now it was close to dark so we headed back to the motorhome
.

Friday August 20, 2004       Day 3

The pools were so beautiful.

Look at this gorgeous color!
It was quite a hike to see this unusual area aptly named "Artist's Paint Pot" but well worth it!
That's Dan way down there, filming us as we hike up!

This is the blue pool you see in the left picture.

Lots of gorgeous waterfalls and in the middle "Steamboat Geyser".

Sights along the Lower Terrace. The right being a close up of the left side of the cone.

I love to stop and admire the beauty of the flowers!

August 21, 2004    Day 4
Tower Falls

Heading towards the north entrance and Gardiner, MT, we pulled over to enjoy this large herd of bison.
One male held up traffic as he meandered across the road and then back again.

You can see what this guy had on his mind!

As we continued on, Dan said "Now, if we couldjust see a moose, it'd make my day!"
15 minutes later......look what we found nibbling on the side of the road.
What a thrill as she passed in front of us to the other side of the road!

We visiting in Gardiner for a few minutes then headed back. It was fun to pull over and have dinner in the car...
a wonderful Chinese grilled chicken salad I had prepared before leaving the motorhome.

August 22, 2004      Day 5
We took a day off from the park. Dan worked with his clients in San Diego on the computer
so Glenda & I enjoyed lunch out and a day of shopping.

August 23, 2004    Day 6
Here (on the right) is a boiling hole which runs in a stream (middle) right down into the Yellowstone River (left).

Another colorful hot spring which I compared in color & shape to
the buffalo dung (growing mushrooms) found so plentifuly throughout the park
.

Here's Old Faithful !
We went to see the legendary "Old Faithful Inn" where I met an interesting lady with lots of Yellowstone tales.
Dan took a catnap, and Glenda found a chair, relaxed and watched all the people come & go.

On the way out, we caught sight of Old Faithful spouting again!

We didn't have much time before dark to see the Grand Tetons, but they were indeed very impressive.
And the sunset was incredible in the sky opposite the mountains.

Thank you Yellowstone for such an awesome experience!
